Welcome to Geelong Coffee

Time to state the bleeding obvious – Geelong Coffee is a web site (you’ve probably guessed that already) that talks about coffee in Geelong and the surrounding region. The geographical scope is the city of Greater Geelong, the Surf Coast and the Bellarine Peninsula. The site will focus on Geelong and the inner suburbs to start with – that is where the bulk of the district’s population lives and therefore will be local for the greatest number of people.

The back story is this – I have recently arrived in Geelong and have decided to sample coffee in as many different locations as I can across the region. I am out there trying to find the best coffee in town (or out of town as the case may be). Given the number of places that serve coffee in our region, it is going to be a never-ending quest, I suspect.

As I state on the Rules and Philosophy page, this is not meant to be hurtful to businesses nor is it designed to pump up the tyres of my favourite cafes. Yes, you can get some of this information and other people’s views on a plethora of other web sites but none that specifically focus on the Geelong region nor that are exclusively the views of a single person.

If you want to know a little bit more about me, I suggest that you visit the About Me page. If you want to get in touch, please send me an email from the contact form on the Contact Me page.

I’d also recommend that you like our Facebook page and follow us on Twitter, Google+ and/or Instagram. Every time we review another café or eatery, we’ll let you know via our social media channels.

So there you go – welcome to Geelong Coffee.

I hope that you enjoy what I present and that if you visit a café on my recommendation, please let them know. And please tell your family and friends about the site – it makes it much more fun for me and for everyone else if there are people actually reading this stuff.

The Cups Counter

A major bugbear of mine is the number of cafes in the region that are serving their long black coffee in the wrong cups. As outlined in my About Cups page, long black coffee should be served in a tulip cup. Cappuccino cups are not only wrong, their capacity almost always creates coffee that doesn’t maintain a decent temperature, ruins the crema and more often than not, tastes bad. No, really. So here’s the current count from my experience thus far:

Please note: “Revisit reviews” will not be included in the cup analysis below – all that will do is re-iterate the existing numbers.
