Rippleside Cafe

The Rippleside Cafe, if nothing else, is an appropriately named establishment – being a cafe on the Melbourne Road in the suburb of Rippleside! Located across the highway from the North Geelong railway station, I’m guessing that a few half-awake commuters are going to drop in for a brew on the way to catching their morning train.

The coffee sits right in the “better than satisfactory but not that much better” category. It’s the kind of place that you’d be unlikely to drive to for a special coffee get-together but as a regular coffee location around the corner from home, it would certainly do the trick.

Notwithstanding the fact that this is a coffee review blog, I should just caution those who are heading to Rippleside for a big breakfast – the range is limited to a few focaccia, croissants and toasties plus a reasonable variety of cakes and slices.

As appears to be the case with cafes that serve Genovese coffee, the long black was served in a cappuccino cup with the option of a mug (grrr!!) which resulted in a broken crema. The coffee tasted good, without giving you a burning desire to rush back for a second.

All of that said, if the Rippleside Cafe was within walking distance of my home, I could see myself visiting on a reasonably regular basis.
