I think I can honestly say that I have never been to St Leonards before today so had absolutely no idea what I was in for. What I found was nice little seaside village that has not yet been commercialised to anywhere near the same extent as the Barwon Heads, Ocean Grove, Point Lonsdale and Queenscliff townships. I originally intended to stop off in Barwon Heads but given that today is part of a long weekend for many people, parking was virtually impossible. Instead, I headed north across the Bellarine and found myself in St Leonards.
There are not a huge range of cafe options but I settled on Cafe Ivary. It appears that their primary focus is fresh food with an Italian theme, with pasta dishes, focaccia, panini and the like on the menu.
I had some lunch and then ordered my long black coffee. Cup was close to being a tulip cup (not quite) but sufficiently close to not impact on the rating I am giving the coffee experience. The crema was thick and rich and whilst the coffee wasn’t absolutely top-notch, it was certainly good enough to demand a four-star rating.
As a township, St Leonards probably doesn’t have the pizazz and shopping that you might associate with the afore-mentioned destinations. That said, if you are looking for somewhere to stop for a coffee or an ice-cream while you are and about visiting wineries or similar, give St Leonards a go.
And if you do, I think you’ll find Cafe Ivary a good option.
